A Message from Denise

“Words can often seem so inadequate, especially at a time like this. I have been deeply moved by the number of cards, letters and messages I received but more so, by the beautiful comments written and spoken about my Syd. From friends and neighbours, former work colleagues, not only from the St Werburgh’s family, but from the clergy and parishioners of surrounding parishes and friends from other denominations. The full church for his Requiem spoke volumes. It is comforting to know how much he was loved and respected. For this and the kindness, love and support shown to me at this sad and difficult time, from the bottom of my heart ‘Thank You.’ Denise”

 

Syd’s Requiem Last Monday

Sincere thanks to everyone who helped to make this such a fitting celebration of Syd’s life and his amazing commitment to this parish: to the altar servers, choir, musicians, stewards, and everyone who filled our church. Thank you so much.

 

World Day of Prayer (Formerly Women’s WDP!)

Thanks to everyone who came along last Friday for this lovely annual ecumenical service. This year it was prepared by the women of Taiwan, and special thanks to Lal, Lyn and Marian for coming along in full Taiwanese national costume.

St Werburgh's Parish FHC Group

Tuesday March 7^th: Parents and Children

• Parish Group (children and parents) meet at 6.30 pm at church. The children will need to bring their new preparation books and pencil cases. Books are available on the night for the children who missed the last class.

Monday March 13^th: Parents Meeting at School

• Parents' Meeting at 7.00 pm at St Werburgh's and St. Columba's School in Lightfoot St. This is a FHC Information Evening for all parents.

Monday 20^th March: Commentary Mass

• The Commentary Mass at 6.30 pm in church, for all the FHC children and their families. This is an important part of the children's preparation, so we expect to see all our First Holy Communion children there accompanied by a member or members of their family.

If for any reason, children or parents are unable to attend any of the meetings, it is important for parents to contact Fr Paul and Louise before the class begins.

Do We Still Need Holy Communion Stewards?

From Sunday 26^th February to Sunday 19^th March, we are experimenting with having no Communion Stewards. Next week, Sunday 12^th March, we want you to vote: continuing with them or ending them?  

 

SVP Theatre Night at Port Sunlight: 8^th March

Gladstone Theatre, in Port Sunlight. The play is The Girl on the Train, a fantastic thriller based on the book by Paula Hawkins. We have 50 tickets available to purchase at £10 per ticket. They can be reserved via email contacting annepatey1@gmail.com, and collected and paid on arrival at the theatre. All money raised will go to support the SVP Holiday Home project.

An Online Course on Vatican II

The Diocese is offering a series of short podcasts throughout Lent. Accessible on the diocesan website at dioceseofshrewsbury.org They may be listened to any time. A leaflet outlining the content of the recordings is available in the parish. Enquiries to Barbara Davies on 07730-526-821.

 

Retired Priests Welfare Officer

Due to the upcoming retirement of our current RGN/Welfare Officer. He/she is expected to draw on their nursing skills and experience effectively to assist priests approaching retirement, those in retirement and those on sick leave. They will need to be proactive, caring and demonstrate safe and effective practice through a multidisciplinary approach.
