Picnic in the Park Postponed 

Very regretfully, we’ve had to postpone this afternoon’s Picnic in the Park: we were unaware that there was another very big event taking place there at the same time and felt it would be neither safe for our children nor relaxing for the rest of us to try and have our picnic competing. Watch this space for rearranged date! And huge thanks to Mrs Baggs for all her planning work. Plus Princess B.  

Diocesan Fire / Health and Safety Audit 

Just a reminder of two immediate follow-ups: 

• Votive Candles will be placed on the cups on the stands as and when they become vacant. So, still plenty of candles for you to light, but no baskets of same to catch fire.
• Cleaning Fluids and Materials: now stored in the cupboard next to the Filing Cabinet. 

Risk Assessments: Let’s All Stay Safe! 

Another requirement of our H&S Audit is for every Parish Activity to carry out a Risk Assessment. Sounds more complex than it is: put simply, every activity needs to look at what they do and see firstly if there is anything risky, any accidents waiting to happen, and then to see ways of reducing/eliminating that risk. We’ll be helping you with a simple template, and will be rolling this out, activity by activity, over the coming months.  

The Repository Summer Closure

Welcome Wednesdays 

I’ll have to make the Quiz harder next year, as the winning team scored 29/32!! Next Wednesday – Knit and Natter. Last Wednesday before summer break is 24th July, in the Back Garden, hopefully a Summer Party and then 12.15 pm Mass, if only it would stop raining… 

Parish Council First Meeting and Supper 

Great to get together last Wednesday for our Launch Meeting and Shared Table Supper. And thanks, everyone, for saying that my legendary Lemon Drizzle cake was the piece de resistance. As they say in German. I’m here to serve.  

2025 Mass Diary  

The Mass Diary for next year opens the first weekend of September, Sunday 1st. Many parishioners like to hand in their intentions for the whole year, which is great. We work on a strictly “first come, first served” basis. Please remember the most requested month is January.  

Side Passageway Out of Action Last Week 

Thanks everybody for understanding while we had to block off the passageway for the Cherry Picker repairing the Lightning Conductors. Work now finished. I asked the contractors to take some photos while they were up there, so let’s see what they come up with.

House Masses for July and August 

Mike and Liz’s out in Clotton (Tuesday 16th July); and John Petterson’s in Great Barrow (Friday 9th August), both at 12.00 noon. Sign-up on sheets. For this coming Tuesday, Smithy Court is on the A51, not far from the roundabout leading into Tarporley, and just before the Willington turn-off on the left,  about ½ mile after Duddon St Peter’s Primary School.  

Chester Across Group to Lourdes in August 

By Jumbulance from Thursday 15th to Saturday 24th August. We travel overland in an adapted coach, which has seven beds on board. Therefore, we can take some sick or disabled pilgrims and so far, we have a Doctor and two nurses and several helpers. However, we need two more helpers and there is a place for someone who is sick or disabled. The cost is £1,095 but help with costs is available. Current Passport required. in Year Three or above in the next school year. Introductory Meeting in October, First Forgiveness in January and First Holy Communions in May. Closing  date for applications Sunday 1st Sept. 

Parish Diary 2024-5: Work Now Well Underway! 

Over two hundred dates have now been entered, and some twenty or so clashes identified. Closing date for getting those dates in: end of July!
