SUNDAY 7th JULY 2024: FOURTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (YEAR B)
Diocesan Fire / Health and Safety Audit
We welcomed the Diocesan H&S Officer on Thursday for a very thorough review of all our practices and policies. As always, lots of good points emerged in a generally good review, and these points we’ll be working on over the coming months. Two immediate changes and one immediate request!
- Votive Candles: instead of baskets of candles being available by each Votive Candle Stand, held to be a fire risk, candles will be placed on the cups on the stands as and when they become vacant. So, still plenty of candles for you to light, but no baskets of same to catch fire.
- Cleaning Fluids and Materials: now stored in the cupboard next to the Filing Cabinet. Previously, they were in the same cupboard as the Sound Controls and having inflammable material near an electric source we’ve been advised to remove.
- Request: we need a good parishioner to join the Team as H&S Rep, checking on a regular basis that we’re fully compliant with the Regs. Anyone fancy this important but not too arduous job?
New Console Tables from the Old Choir Stalls
Two beautiful new tables now at the back of church, immediately behind the pews, for leaflets, newsletters, flyers and so on. Can we ask everyone to check with FP, please, before they place any material on these tables? Most of the stuff placed there is excellent, but some of it is…
New Piano A Frame
Our Grand Piano, kindly gifted from the Cathedral, now has a permanent A Frame under it, allowing it to be moved safely – safely both for the piano and the movers! Huge thanks to Fiona and Adrian for sourcing this for us, and to Buckley Pianos for installing it. Thanks, team, for an excellent job.
Syd Jones Memorial Church Music Workshop
Saturday 13th July 12 noon to 4.00 pm. We have some places left for this workshop. It will be run by Damian O’Keefe, a notable voice coach, along with Tom Rozario, our organist and music director. There is no charge and a light lunch will be provided. No experience needed. Please email FP or sign up at the back of church.
Side Passageway Out of Action Thursday/Friday
As part of our Fire/H&S review, the two Lightning Conductors have been inspected, and both require some remedial work. A cherry picker will be on site Thursday and Friday this week, and so the side passageway will be out of bounds to cars both days. Apologies for any inconvenience caused, but this work has to be done. Thanks everyone!

Chester Across Group to Lourdes in August
By Jumbulance from Thursday 15th to Saturday 24th August. We travel overland in an adapted coach, which has seven beds on board. Therefore, we can take some sick or disabled pilgrims and so far, we have a Doctor and two nurses and several helpers. However, we need two more helpers and there is a place for someone who is sick or disabled. The cost is £1,095 but help with costs is available. Current Passport required. Resuming Eucharistic Ministry at Sunday Masses
Starting again Sunday 21st July, at all Sunday Masses.
Our First Holy Communions: Seven Names In So Far
For children not at our Catholic Primary School in Year Three or above in the next school year. Introductory Meeting in October, First Forgiveness in January and First Holy Communions in May. Closing date for applications Sunday 1st Sept.
Parish Picnic in the Park - Sunday 14th July
After the 10.45 Mass. Come along, bring a picnic and a blanket or chair and enjoy games and train rides. All welcome. Just pray for fine weather!

Thanks to Ana Gasparini, our wonderful High School Chaplain, for an inspiring talk on her work last Wednesday. This Wednesday – what you’ve all been waiting for: AN FP QUIZ!!!! Dontcha lurve it when he asks pointless questions at inappropriate moments? Well, now you’ve got a whole hour of it, 10.45 on Wednesday. Plus – of course – valuable PEE-I-ZIES.
