Last chance today, either online through the Parish website or filling out a paper slip at Mass. Many thanks for all the votes that have come in so far.
We last welcomed Bishop Mark in January 2017 and are delighted to welcome him again in September of this year. A big part of the Visitation is the Parish compiling the pre-Visitation Report, our judgement on where we are up to and our plans for the future. Writing this Report will be the first task of our new Parish Council. Exciting times.
Many thanks to all the Werbies who turned out to support the twenty-five or so residents who were gathered together to remember this key date in our history. They shared their memories so poignantly, including Kenneth, whose father had been on those beaches and lived to tell the tale.
St Werburgh's gave a total of £4,355.32 for 2023, made up from the red box donations, direct debits or on-line payments and gift aid. Thank you so much. If anyone would like a red box please contact our Red Box secretary, Bernie, on 340768.
We normally finish at the end of June but due to two out-of-town Funerals on Monday 17th and 24th, our last Mass this year will be tomorrow, Monday 9th. Next one: Monday 2nd September.
Invitations are invited from Boys and Girls over the age of 8 who have received their First Holy Communion and would like to join the 10.45 am Team. Full training will be given . Thanks to a very generous donation, the Garden Team were able to go out to the Grosvenor Garden Centre on Thursday and buy lots of new plants for our front garden. Thanks, everyone!
Frances writes: “I am hoping to arrange bucket collections, roughly every two months and need more volunteers. If you have a few hours to spare and would be happy to volunteer, please email me at: frances.douglas2@btinternet.com
CAFOD and the SVP have worked together in their ‘Year of Encounter’ to prepare a booklet that describes how we can each use our Catholic voice in the upcoming General Election. A small number of booklets is available at the back for the church for anyone who would like to take one.
Seven excellent applications and interviewing next week. Watch this space, everyone!
Thanks to Gerry and Tony, St Werburgh’s welcomed 14 visitors last Friday afternoon. You are welcome to come and join them throughout June/July. We’ll also need Stewards for the whole week, 23rd-28th June.
The newly formed Outings Group is thinking of organising a parish trip to see “Sister Act” at the Liverpool Empire on Friday 4th October at 7.30 pm. Tickets are £38.50 each and coach transport to and from Chester would be approximately £12 a head, depending on numbers. At this point, we’d like expressions of interest. If you’d like to join us on the trip, please sign the form at the back of church by Monday 17th June. Many thanks.
A second Confirmation preparation information meeting will be held on Wednesday 12th June, 7.00 pm, at St. Columba's for those not able to come to the first meeting. Please email: stcolumbatheresaconfirmation@hotmail.co.uk
A former student here at Chester, being ordained for A&B. Please keep Gary in your prayers.
A super production of this great classic. Thanks to all who filled the theatre as a “Charity Night” for the SVP. Two more productions coming up locally – here in Grosvenor Park this summer, and at Royal Exchange Manchester. All together now, “A HANDBAG?”
Everything must go! (For the very last time, this does NOT include Paula & Bernice, utterly irreplaceable…)
Our own Aleta Doran is coming here to St Werburgh’s to give us an illustrated talk on Trena, Wednesday 26th June at 2.00 pm, an occasion not to be missed. This is part of Chester History Festival this year, and we hope to have our own church open for wizziters for most of that week, Sunday 23rd June to Friday 28th June.
Bingo at 10.30 am, with Bernice as Caller.
You have been warned! Not to be missed…
A couple of cancellations: anyone else like to join us? Itinerary sheet at back of church, and can I have the last couple of payments, please?
The CHS would like to acknowledge the FHC’s taking place in all our feeder Parishes by celebrating the "Holy Reunion Mass". Wednesday 26th June, 6.30 pm.
