Parish Open Meeting: Thursday 23rd
A good turn-out on Thursday, 25 of you coming along to give us your reactions to the latest stage of our Parish Renewal Programme, ask a lot of questions, and look at the two new Poster Boards summarising these latest developments. Thanks, everyone!
Tables in Church and Day Chapel
Super tables, very sturdy, excellent condition and easy-wipe surfaces. Their one snag is that they don’t stack, and we want to replace them with a stackable variety, one of which has been at the back of church for some months for your inspection. So, the existing tables are now offered free to anyone who wants them, just one or a dozen! Interested? See FP. Then we will need wolunteers to help move the “old” tables into the Garage so that we can replace them with the new, stackable ones.
Parish Admin Assistant: New Appointment
Applications are coming in, so spread the word far and wide, everyone! Six hours a week, over two or three days. £14 per hour. Main Job responsibilities: responding to emails, telephone calls, letters and callers at the door; monitoring the Parish Priest’s Diary and booking appointments where appropriate; preparing the Newsletter; dealing with contractors; taking Minutes for Parish Council. You’ll need to have good admin skills, be a team player, know your way around a computer (mainly Word), and provide references. Full details on the Parish Website, including how to apply. Getting Ready for our New-Look Parish Council
- Ten-Member council, 9 parishioners and the PP.
- Meeting monthly nine times a year, with summer and Christmas breaks.
- Six specific portfolio members, each with a distinct area of responsibility and three elected members to assume areas of responsibility they personally feel equipped for and to communicate to us the views of parishioners.
- Minutes published after every meeting.
The six designated portfolios and leads are:
- Buildings and Maintenance: Marian McCarthy
- Finance: Denise Jones
- Housekeeping and Hospitality: Cristina Dominte
- Liturgy: Lyn Williams
- Social: Pat Floate and Bernice Meredith alternating
- Outreach: Lal Cook
So, get thinking, everyone! These six are already on the PC, so can you think of one, two or three parishioners you’d like to vote for to become one of our three “elected members”? No need to ask them: just give us their names, and we will approach the ones who get most votes.
Key New Parish Council Dates
- Tuesday 28th May: On-line voting opens for our three new members.
- Sunday 2nd June and Sunday 9th June: Paper Voting.
- Week beginning 10th June: approaching those who have gained the most votes to see if they’d be willing to join the Parish Council.
- Sunday 23rd June: Results announced.
- Wednesday 10th July, 7.00 pm: First Meeting of the new-look Parish Council and Social.

Summer Heritage Events: Trena Cox Talk
Trena Cox is the extraordinary artist responsible for the magnificent stained-glass windows in the porch, and in many other local churches. The Wikipedia article lists most of her known windows. Our own Aleta Doran has done a great deal of research on Cox, and there is to be an exhibition of her work in the Cathedral this autumn, and then at the Grosvenor Museum. Aleta is coming here to St Werburgh’s to give us an illustrated talk on Cox on Wednesday 26th June at 2.00 pm, an occasion not to be missed. This is part of Chester History Festival this year, and we hope to have our own church open for wizziters for most of that week, Sunday 23rd June to Friday 28th June.

Catholic High School’s “Holy Reunion Mass”
The CHS would like to acknowledge the FHC taking place in all our feeder Parishes by celebrating the "Holy Reunion Mass". Wednesday 26th June, 6:30 pm at the Lyceum (6th Form building at the CHS) followed by refreshments. The candidates are welcome to wear their Communion outfits or their school uniform. We look forward to celebrating with you all!
