Housekeeping continues to storm ahead, the Banners Group up and running with so many ideas for ways of adding to our existing supply of banners hanging from the church pillars. Thanks, Stella, Bernie, Vera and Gladys! Gardeners have waded into the Back Garden, and it’s looking better already – Cristina, David and Tony, with Anne giving the orders… Cleaners are now in four groups, coming in at different times. See Rotas for details. Tip Team doing wonders Monday Mornings. Linen Girls aiming for many new Purificators and Lavabo Towels. (Where are the Linen Boys??) Dominique sorting the Library out (Library Operation In Charge?). Marie and Consilia doing a great job on the flowers, always an unknown quantity with Weddings and what they leave. Pat and team lots of good plans for the Notice Boards, with some ideas for you to look at today. And Babs and Paula continuing like good’uns with the Brass and Silver. Thanks to Karen and Gerry for coming in and doing a stock check on the candles. Please, everyone: check your rotas in the porch.
Now we’re ready for Phase Two, the Welcomers. Invites have gone out to all those who’ve expressed an interest, either in being part of Welcoming Teams at each of the four weekend Masses, or in compiling our Welcome Pack for new parishioners. Please, don’t forget to check Spam everyone. Ready for the Welcomers Launch Meeting on Thursday 27th July, here in church, at 6.00 pm.
Almost all the individual Booking Sheets are now back in – many thanks, everyone! – telling us where you want picking up and any dietary requirements. Can the last few forms come in asap, please?
Lovely concert here from our great friends, the Cathedral Nave Choir. Come again soon! If any of you know of choirs or instrumentalists who’d like to use our church for a concert or recital, do please tell them to get in touch.
This is the working document for the Synod in October and makes for fascinating reading. It’s on our website, home page top button (Synod) and the English version is the second one down. Do please read as much of it as you feel able to do so, and then perhaps those of us who would like to discuss it might have an Open Meeting here in church later on in July? Let me know what you think.
Thanks, SVP, for a super lunch, with a record number of guests. It was a lovely occasion and we do thank the SVP for all their hard work, and the Parish for their support. 2.00 am in the kitchen for me…
All ready to go, off on the 10.32 train to Euston. We have ONE SPARE TICKET if anyone would like to join us, train fare £84. Let FP know asap. It will be a lovely day together, seeing what promises to be a fantastic exhibition of visual art inspired by St Francis of Assisi. If you have any more ideas for Days Out, please don’t hesitate to let us know.
Friday 14th July, 7.30 pm, with the High School City Jazz Band. Tickets are £10, from Marco bububbaba05@icloud.com [I am NOT making that address up. Ed] All the money raised goes to the SVP Holiday Home at Talacre. Steve Perry writes: “Thanks to your fantastic support, we purchased the new Holiday Home at a cost of about £45,000. The new home is Photo of the Week this week and has been in use every week this year since the start of April, giving a holiday to those who otherwise would not have one. These static caravans have a life of about ten years. We are trying to set aside £5,000 every year, so that in ten years’ time, the funds are already there. Do join us at the High School on 14th July as we start raising this year’s five grand!”
Thanks to Mrs Baggs and team for organising this, and to everyone for their support. The Summer Fair raised a wonderful £3,000 for our Primary school, with £822 of that coming from the Raffle. Werbies won five of the twenty prizes, including the top one! (Amazing what a bit of jam will do). Many thanks from everyone at School to all Parishioners.
Time to pick up Eucharistic Ministry once again. We will need to consult the Parish on re-introduction of the Chalice at Mass, but there is nothing now stopping us going back to Home Communions. So, I need to know which of our existing cohort wish to carry on and who wants to step down at this juncture. Four Review Meetings in September for all those carrying on. Please come to one of them:
If you have a child who will be in Year 3 or above in September who does not attend our Catholic Primary School, please contact Fr Paul preferably by email. The classes begin in November with First Forgiveness in January and First Holy Communions in May. The closing date for enrolment is Sunday 3rd September 2023. (NB, if you think you’ve already sent names in, please send them again so we are 100% certain we have not missed anyone)
Many thanks to everyone for making my great friend Fr John, now Rector of Allen Hall, so welcome last weekend. He commented on how nice and friendly everyone was. Little does he know…
Most dates in now, and the monumental work of spotting and resolving clashes well underway. Thanks, Denise! Last call for dates if you wish them to go in: Sunday 30th July.
Here it is, in all its glory, and coming into use in April of this year. Huge thanks to everyone who helped with raising the £45,000 it cost, giving a holiday to those who would otherwise not be able to have one. Hard copy on Notice Boards.
