John McCann, RIP
We were all saddened to hear news of the death of John McCann. John devoted over thirty years of his life to teaching at the Catholic High School and was a loyal Deputy to more than one Head. He was also a proud family man, husband to Kath and father to Alex, Philippa and Stephanie. He was also a great parishioner down at St Clare’s and supporter of their Primary School. We celebrate John’s life and faith here on Tuesday at 12.30 pm. May he Rest in Peace.
July now, and the summer speeding on. Just a reminder that when September comes, we will have a major Parish Renewal exercise, which will involve looking at all our activities together and asking what we’ve learnt over the last two and a half years: what do we need to start up again, what do we need to change, and what do we need to drop? As so many people have remarked, “getting back to normal” means “getting back to the NEW normal”. At the same time, it’s a great opportunity to refresh all our teams: have you been doing this particular job in the parish for quite long enough, and time now to move on to something new? To have a rest altogether? And are you one of those parishioners who’d love to get more involved but aren’t quite sure how? September is going to be an exciting time, so hold your horses till then, everyone!
Our friends at Upton URC have asked us to publicise some “Meet and Chat Drop-ins” which they have organised on Tuesday mornings. Please see details on the Notice Boards.
“Thank you for your generous donations over the last two weekends, which totalled £549.59. This is in addition to the £246-53 already collected this year. All of us connected with Caritas are extremely grateful!”
Get any more to FP as soon as possible, everyone!
“Please note we will be closing after Masses on Sunday 3rd July, reopening Sunday 4th September. Thank you very much for your valued support, Paula & Bernice.” (Address for the next two months: c/o Mrs Peabody, Dunfloggin Guest House, South Shore, Blackpool.)
On Saturday 16th July, Tony Nuttall from the Ellesmere Port Group of Parishes will be ordained a Deacon in our Cathedral by Bishop Mark. Coaches will be going from the Port with Fr Edmund, but I thought as this is our Deanery, it would be good to support Tony and his family by joining them by train – which for Shrewsbury is honestly quicker than driving! 09.30 train down, 15.30 train back. Fancy coming? Sign up on the list if you do! Everyone warmly welcome.
As you know, you asked us to purchase a Defibrillator for here in church, and this we have done – and it’s been the gift of one extremely generous Parishioner, Laurie from Larshay. We are delighted that Dr Rose Penson is going to give us all a Training Session, with Dr Pete Penson as Dummy. Everyone welcome, but could all Parish Groups make sure at least one of their members attends?
Thursday 7th July the next one, 10.30 am. Please email or contact FP if you would like details of the venue.
SVP Summer Lunch for the elderly will be held on 6th July at the Forest Hills Hotel in Frodsham, with transport provided. Numbers are limited but if you know of anyone who would benefit from this social event, please contact Fran on 07990-524-780.
The Nave Choir are performing a concert on 9th July at 7.30 pm in the Cathedral. The concert is called Silence and Music and includes mainly music by Ralph Vaughan Williams to celebrate his 150th anniversary.
Organised by Churches Together in Christleton, it’s a way of welcoming wizziters to the village and raising funds for Water Aid at the same time. In the Methodist School Room. Why not pop out and say hello?
As the Day Chapel comes back into use for a whole variety of activities, it’s important that the corridor leading to the outside door (by the organ) is now cleared. If any of you have anything there you don’t want tipping, please remove well before then!!
Many congratulations to Fr Neill, this year’s Catenian President. This Sunday, 3rd July, at 10.45 is his President’s Mass, here in St Werburgh’s. The Catenians will also be marking the Feast Day of St John Plessington, Tuesday 19th July. If any of the men of the Parish would like more information about the Catenians, do please have a word with Fr Neill.
Wednesday 14th September: Put it in your Diary!
A good set of Dickens has been donated to the church and is on the table at the back of church. It’s complete and would grace any bookshelf! Sealed bids to FP, please, with your name, phone number and amount you would be prepared to pay. Proceeds to Caritas.
If you have a child in Year 3 or above who does not attend our Catholic Primary School, please contact Fr Paul, preferably by email. The classes begin in October. Closing date for enrolment is Sunday 4th September ‘22.
After the Likely Lads last week, meet the Three Likely Kings! This is one of my favourite pics, King Gethyn, King Carwyn and King William in all their finery, ready for a pop down to St Werburgh’s to grace our Christmas Eve Children’s Mass. Welcome, Your Majesties!
