Friday 1st November is All Saints, and a Holy Day of Obligation. Usual three Masses, 7.30 am, 12.15 pm and 7.30 pm, and, as you know, you are all expected… The following day, Saturday, is All Souls, and whilst not a Holy Day of Obligation, is a day on which many Catholics like to come to Mass. So, two extra Masses on that day, 7.30 am and 12.15 pm.
Good four days Study Leave, Sunday to Thursday, and then the drive into the deepest Hertfordshire countryside for Friday’s Wedding. St Edmund’s, now a top Catholic co-educational Boarding School, is steeped in Catholic History, with many reminders of Oscott and our lovely visit there. When all Seminary Training was driven abroad after the Reformation in England, Cardinal Allen founded colleges in France (Douai) and Rome. The former was where the first systematic Catholic English Translation of the Bible was produced – the famous Douai-Rheims Bible, as we saw in our recent Bible Talks. When the French Revolution drove the college out of France, it came (1793) to Ware, and priests were trained there throughout the 18th and 20th century until 1975, when they moved to Allen Hall in Chelsea. The college then became a school, as it is today. Well worth a visit if you find yourself in that part of the world. Many thanks to Frs Colin and Neill for looking after Masses while I am away, and to Syd for minding the shop.
7.00 pm, starting planning for Advent and Christmas. All warmly welcome.
Finishing on Thursday. We’ll have the church open this afternoon, Sunday, if anyone would like to join me welcoming wizziters.
Now displayed on the Notice Board in the Porch. It will soon also be on the Sunday Newsletter. Plus, the link to Diocesan Website: do have a look to see what we as a Diocese are doing to make our churches as safe as possible, and how you can contact if you need to:

We were all saddened last week to hear news of the death of Bishop Brian, who led our Diocese from 1995 to 2010. He was 83 and had enjoyed a good retirement on the Wirral after battling so amazingly serious ill health earlier in his time with us. His Vigil Mass will be at the Cathedral in Shrewsbury on Tuesday 5th November at 7.00 pm, and his Requiem Mass the following day, Wednesday 6th, at St Michael and All Angels, Woodchurch, Birkenhead, at 12.00 noon. May He Rest in Peace.
Time now to start getting those names in – email is preferred, but if you write them out by hand, please use Capital Letters to avoid misspellings!
