Excellent response last Tuesday, with 27 candidates signed up. Second Launch Meeting is this coming Tuesday, 16th July, at 7.00 pm in the Church. The full programme will be given out, and all questions answered. If you’ve not yet sent your name in, please just come along to the Launch, and we’ll collect your details then.
We now have the Diary for next year’s Mass Intentions. Always a joy and a privilege to say Mass for you, so do please get those special dates in as soon as possible. We operate a strict ‘first come, first served policy’!
Today, we are publishing an A4 Flyer bringing everyone up to date with our Minor Works List: what we have done so far, what is now in the pipeline, and what we’d like your views on. Do please take one, and don’t hesitate to let us know your opinion: items we’d love to have, but which would stretch our normal Budget.
On 20th July Ruth Tierney and her daughters, Clare and Madeleine, are taking part in a 26-mile hike in the Lake District organised by the Alzheimer's Society. They are doing the hike in memory of Ruth's mother, Gill. Ruth will be at the back of church after each Mass TODAY, Sunday 14th July if you would like to sponsor them. Anyone interested in hiking themselves, either the full 26 miles or the 13-mile option? Deadline for enrolling is 5th July. More information on www.alzheimers.org.uk or Ruth, 07790-133-837.
And then when I say something serious you are all rolling in the aisles! I was deadly serious last week: the train ride from Crewe to Chester on a sunny Summer evening is as lovely as any you will see in England. I sometimes think I’m totally wasted on you lot…
A very joyful wedding indeed last Saturday in the ferocious heat of a Spanish July. It was a gloriously trilingual affair (Spanish, German and English), but it’s my proudest boast that I can murder any language you choose to name. The taxi was revving up outside the church as the wedding finished, to whisk me back to the airport, so that I could be ready, fresh and lovely for Sunday Morning. Well, ready anyway.
Any last dates? Get them in asap, please!
For the SVP Holiday Home, allowing families to have a holiday who otherwise would be unable to do so, and providing others with family days out during the long summer break. For further info, contact Stephen Perry on 07775-781-204.
Our own Jim Strain is President this year, and we were delighted to be hosting his President’s Mass last Sunday, 7th July, at 12.15 pm, with a beautiful lunch afterwards in the University Queen’s Park Campus, the former GHQ of Western Command. Congratulations to Jim and all the Circle.
St Werburgh's SVP is looking for an additional member to join its very active team to provide support in the management of the Holiday Home in Talacre that they share with other local SVP Conferences in the Chester and Ellesmere Port District. Tuesday 15th July 7.00 pm for about an hour in the Presbytery. We will look at the readings for the next four Sundays and study them. All are welcome whether Readers or not; it's a very open group. No meeting in August - this is the last for this academic year. Do come along!
Slightly earlier Mass time on Wednesday as I want to be on a Train at 2.00 pm to pop over to Hull for my great friend Fr William’s Silver Jubilee. (He’s the Chaplain at Hull University). It’s Refreshments after Mass that day, so everyone warmly invited to join us in the Dining Room after Mass. That lunchtime, we are also welcoming the Cheshire Church Leaders for their regular bi-monthly Meeting which they often hold here.
Our very good friend Michael is putting on a concert here on Friday 26th July at 7.30, “The Sounds of Stage and Screen – A Light-hearted Evening of Well-Known Music”. Tickets £10, including refreshments, from the Parish Office.
Practice in the Church Monday 14th, 7.00 pm.
Please take your free copy from back of church.
Syd, our first-rate and ever-faithful Parish Secretary, will be on Holiday Monday 29th July to Sunday 11th August. Muggins will be away Tuesday 20th August to Thursday 5th September. Milan - I can’t wait! (What do you mean, ‘nor can we’??)
Just a reminder, folks: Syd’s Office Hours are Mon, Wed and Friday mornings. Please only contact him on Parish business outside those hours if it’s an emergency and you can’t get hold of FP.
Another lovely photo from Frances Mathias, the Candle Shrine from this extraordinary church near Barcelona. (In Spain, dear Love Island girls, not Italy. Nor Rome. Give me strength...)
