St Werburgh's Roman Catholic Parish, Chester

Joining our First Holy Communion Programme

Children need to be in Year Three of the Primary school in order to make their First Holy Communion and First Forgiveness, but there is certainly no upper age limit, and we are always pleased to welcome enquiries from older children and adults.

We have two groups preparing in parallel for First Holy Communion, the children at our Parish Primary School, St Werburgh's and St Columba's Primary School in Lightfoot Street, Hoole, and those children who live in the Parish but attend other, non-Catholic Primary Schools. The former group receive most of their instruction in school, the latter group here in the Parish, at monthly meetings where the Catechists talk to the children and Fr Paul meets with the Parents. Then all the Parents from both groups and both Parishes (as St Werburgh's and St Columba's Primary school is a joint school shared by both Parishes) meet at the School every month or so as part of their children's preparation.

If your child attends our Primary School, all the arrangements will be made through school; if they attend another school, please contact Fr Paul in plenty of time to enrol your child on the course, which begins in October every year. The Sacrament of First Forgiveness takes place here in church on a Saturday at the end of January, and the Sacrament of First Holy Communion at any Sunday during May at the family's choice.
